Reverend Eugene "Freedom" Blackwell was a scholar, athlete, father, husband and a servant of Christ. "Rev" had a way of hiding in the shadows while at the same time he was a clear and decisive leader. He would remind us that when some one would ask "Where is House of Manna" anyone in the community could say I am House of Manna. God used Freedom to create a church community for those who may feel left out and disconnected from humanity. He was successful.
Along with his wife by his side Dina "Free"Blackwell , they became a voice for the unheard. Homewood Renaissance along with House of Manna began to create job opportunities and support while laying a strong Biblical foundation. The gift of reconciliation would bridge the racial gap between churches such as Northway Faith Community and the Presbyterian Church allowing a pathway for all to support the community of Homewood.
